Nakhchivan State History Museum

Nakhchivan State History Museum was created as the Nakhchivan State Etnography Museum according to the order number 30-th of october in 1924 of the Council of People Commissars of Nakhchivan  ASSR. The name of the museum has been changed several times, it has been named as Nakhchivan State History museum since 60-th years of last century. There are over 49000 exhibites in the museum which 3000 of them are demonstrated in the exposures. The exposures of the museum cover periods of ancient, middle, new and recent history.

On the first floor displayed exhibits about stone, bronze, iron and middle ages. They show development of the hunting and weaving at that time. Decorated with ornaments, celestical bodies, hunting scenes monochrom, polychrome and zoomorf typed eartenwear fragments dating back to the Kura-Aras Culture, examples of culture material belonging to the eneolit, bronze and early iron ages founded from I-II Kultape are demonstrated in the museum.

Makets of phitos and stone box graves which show antiguate of burial traditions of our people, also sandugas decorated with different plot composition, marble grave stone, epigraphic monument and photos of historical and cultural monuments are demonstrated in the museum.

Historical, ethnographic and artistic characteristic of the people is reflected in national costumes. Men and women wears including to the collection are demondtrated in the exposure.

Paintings demonstrated in the museum give opportunity to see different times of Nakhchivan history. Different kinds of national musical instruments-wind, string and percussion instruments- are demonstrated on the exposures of the museum.

The exhibits on the second floor covers XIX-XX centuries. Money examples used from XIX century to nowadays and coins belonging to different periods are demonstrated here. At the same time there are demonstrated tools used in Nakhchivan agriculture which belong to XIX- XX centuries.

Here are demonstrated household items and decorative applied arts. Flat and pile carpet examples weaved with national ornaments, horse and camel stirrups, saddle bags, holdalls and embroideries let know how our people possess to the rich culture. State attributes of Azerbaijan, historical documents, photos, money belonging to the 1918- 1920 years and different exponates are demonstrated in the exhibit about Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

The exposure of the museum is rich with the examples of periodical papers, books, paintings, photos and historical documents which give oportunite to the visitors to see honoured life way of great leader and special exhibits diling about the life and action of National Leader of Azerbaijan people Haydar Aliyev.

Exposition of the museum is accomplishing with the exhibit about Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In the exhibit are demonstrated different documents, explanatory information, maps, photos, books, examples of periodical papers and other materials.
